In this episode of the PCOS Diet Support Podcast, we have a look at some of the steps you can take to make long lasting changes to your diet and lifestyle. Research has shown that diet and lifestyle modifications are more effective in managing PCOS than Metformin (1). That is huge and just shows how important these changes are. BUT, they’re also incredibly difficult to make!
So many of us struggle from carb cravings and disordered eating. Sticking to any kind of diet changes is SO difficult – but not impossible!!!

I am really enjoying your podcasts so far – even made my husband listen to the podcast when your husband spoke and he enjoyed learning from him! I was wondering if you could post a link with the study that you mentioned of the 1000 calorie breakfast. That was super fascinating and I was hoping to read more about it! Thanks again and I’m looking forward to the next podcast already!
I have a few questions.. most of them are food related. First, I know that pasta is not good for you. Is that all pasta or just the regular kind? I have seen a ton of whole wheat or whole grain pastas out now in the store here are those ok? Pasta is the one thing of all things that will be REALLY hard for me to get rid of, and I’m just wondering if the whole wheat kind would be a good alternative or if I should just eliminate all kinds of pasta? Another thing I eat A LOT of is turkey. I don’t see that on the free shopping list, is that ok to eat? I can’t eat any fish, because I am allergic to seafood so, I like turkey as another option aside from chicken or beef.
The final question I have deals with the HCG diet (also called the liquid amino diet). It has become VERY popular here, and I’m wondering if it is ok for people with PCOS? I’m not sure if the HCG hormones interfere with PCOS when you are trying to regulate your cycle. I purchased the liquid amino drops, but have been too scared and intimidated to take them.
Hi Tarryn
I can’t wait to watch this. I’m over the moon that I found your site, 2 months in to my new diet and lifestyle (no gluten, no lactose, low sugar and moderate exercise 3+ times a week) I have had two consecutive periods now and that’s the first time in nearly a year I can say that.
I was very close to taking special birth control for hormone imbalances to sort my symptoms out, but the diet has been so effective and I’m so happy!
Thank you!
Hayley
Hi Tarryn-will you be building the findings from this research into your meal plans?
Thanks!
Hi Jennifer,
I haven’t as yet but may well start including some higher calorie breakfasts into the meal plans.

Hi there, I was found to have PCOS in 2011. My period had been on and off from then till now. My last one was in April 2013 which is 4 months back then. Currently i’m on metformin for 2months already, but still no sign of period visiting. When I found out I had PCOS, doctor prescribe me a birth control pill called Yasmin. I took 2 mths then stopped because it made me giddy and light-headed all day. I got married this Jan 2013 and wanted to get pregnant, but with this PCOS I felt my hope is fading.
Josephine
Hi Josephine,
Don’t lose hope! Pregnancy is possible with PCOS (I’m pregnant with my second – both conceived naturally). Make sure you’re following a good diet and taking supplements regularly to help bring your symptoms under control.
Hope you start to see some improvement soon!
Tarryn
Hi there, this podcast was pretty helpful.
I have Hypothyroidism and also PCOS. I have never conceived and
most likely never will, I am above the age now.
I am just trying to manage to loose some extra weight.
I am not overweight but I feel like I am carrying a extra 10lbs
that are extremely hard to get off.
If you have any ideas I would welcome them very much.
Thanks so much & take care.
Lucille 🙂
Hi Lucille,
First I would make sure that your thyroid levels are okay (are you on any meds?) Then I would make sure that you are following a good PCOS diet that manages your insulin and testosterone levels. You can get some ideas from the free Starter pack.
Hope that helps!
Tarryn
